N.B.: In 1703, coins bearing the mark “VIGO” were struck by the Royal Mint, using silver and gold captured from Spanish treasure ships at the Battle of Vigo Bay in 1702. This battle, a significant victory for England during the War of the Spanish Succession, resulted in the capture of a large quantity of Spanish bullion.
